The national U-23 men’s football team coach, Samson Siasia, has sent out a passionate appeal to the kidnappers of his 72-year-old mother, Madam Ogere Siasia, to release her as he does not have any money to offer as ransom.
We’d earlier reported that Madam Siasia was abducted from her Odoni community home in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by armed kidnappers, who made away with her on a motorcycle.
According to africanfootball.com reports, the septuagenarian was the only one at home in the village taking care of the Olympic Team coach’s father, who is visually impaired due to old age.
Pleading with the kidnappers to release his mother so that he can focus on the task of winning a ticket to next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Siasia said at the moment, he is at crossroads as he does not know what to do.
“Right now I am confused”, he said. “From the story I got, three men on motorbike stormed my parents’ house in my village in Odoni, Bayelsa State, shot sporadically into the air before taking my old mother away on a bike”.
Speaking further on the incident, Siasia said “What do they expect from me? I don’t have money, I am right now on national duty, and needs all the time to concentrate on this very important national task. So I beg them to please release my mother so that I can concentrate on this task of qualifying the U-23 national team for the men’s football event of the Rio Olympics”.
Siasia confirmed a report on the incident has been lodged with the police in Bayelsa State.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has called on the kidnappers to release the former Super Eagles player/coach’s mother.
NFF President, Mr. Amaju Pinnick, who made the plea on behalf of the Glass House, said he was distraught upon receiving news of Madam Siasia’s kidnap on Tuesday morning.
“This is quite disturbing. We are just preparing for a crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, and the U-23 boys are already in The Gambia for a pre-Cup of Nations training camp. Why this?” Pinnick queried.
He said the NFF will continue to appeal to the kidnappers to free the septuagenarian because her son, “Samson is on a critical national assignment presently and the last he needs is this kind of distraction”.
