McDonald, 45 — who has earned a whopping six Tony awards, with her most recent one coming in 2014 for her role in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill — tweeted that the bundle of joy is a bit of a shocker for the couple.
“Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead 2 pregnancy?” she wrote. “@thewillswenson & I are completely surprised but elated 2 b expecting.”
The pregnancy has led McDonald to postpone her West End debut with Lady Day, which was set to open in London this summer. Still, bringing a little one into the world has its share of perks, with the Private Practice alum adding on Twitter, “In other news … I may have had 3 croissants today.”
McDonald has daughter, Zoe, 15, and fellow Broadway star Swenson, 42, has sons Bridger, 13, and Sawyer, 10, from their previous marriages. The pair wed in 2012.
In addition to her stage work, the actress has nabbed roles in such films as 2015’s Ricki and the Flash and 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. She also costarred in 2013’s Sound of Music Live! on NBC.
