Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party from going ahead with its zonal congress in the South-West zone scheduled for May 14, 2016 (tomorrow).

The Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Thursday said the over 40 million Nigerian students would re-enact the Occupy Nigeria protest against the removal of subsidy from petroleum product next week.
According to Vanguard, the National President of NANs, Comrade Tijani Shehu, stated this in Abuja, at a protest rally where the association called for the removal of the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

Vandals steal four transformers from Amaechi’s village

Suspected vandals on Tuesday night invaded Ubima community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the home of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and carted away four transformers that provide electricity to the area.

The PUNCH learnt that the vandals had arrived at the village around 11pm and shot into the air several times to cause panic in the area.

The Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Muda Yusuf, has backed the “inevitable” decision of the Federal Government to liberalise the petroleum downstream sector.

“In an economy with huge deficit in economic and social infrastructures, it (subsidy) was simply scandalous. It is in the overall interest of the economy and citizens for it to be discontinued,” Yusuf said in an emailed statement shortly after the government announced the removal of subsidy.
