Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has questioned a statement credited to President Goodluck Jonathan that Muhammadu Buhari did not buy any weapons for soldiers when he was in government, Punch reports.

Fashola was speaking at the 2014 series of the Obafemi Awolowo Free Education Lecture, organised by the Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday, and asked whether President Goodluck Jonathan planned to fight terrorists with 1985 weapons.

As Nigerians prepare to cast their votes for their favourite candidates in the up-coming Presidential, Gubernatorial and Legislative elections around the country, various groups, organisations, countries, international bodies and non-governmental organisations have continued to use various means to sue for peace among the political classs and their supporters.

One of such organisations is giant beverage company, Coca-Cola. The company which was sued by the Federal Government at a federal high court in Abuja over a supposed criminal break of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Act two months ago is using its recent advertising campaign to promote peace in Nigeria before, during and after the general elections.

Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso

Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State on Friday urged youths in the country to shun violence during and after the 2015 general elections.

Kwankwaso gave the advice while receiving the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Munkaila Abdullahi at the Government House, Kano.
The governor said the call became necessary to ensure peaceful atmosphere during and after the exercise.

Mohammadu Buhari

The presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, has promised to revive Ajaokuta Steel Company if elected president of Nigeria.
Buhari made the promise during campaign in Lokoja on Friday.
He said he would resuscitate the company which had been out of production for the past five years.
He explained that this would enable it to generate employment for the nation's teeming youths and create wealth for the country.
Buhari said government had spent almost $5billion on the company, promising that its fortunes will change for the better as soon as he assumed office.

FG To Inaugurate Over 1 Million Prepayment Electricity Meters - Prof.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, on Thursday in Abuja said that the Federal Government would soon inaugurate over one million prepayment electricity meters to reduce the metering gap nationwide.

Nebo said this at a town hall meeting with stakeholders, organised by the ministry.
He said that the intervention was to help electricity distribution companies, in which government had 40 per cent share, to reduce the metering gap.
“Government still owns 40 per cent of the DISCOs. This is why it is still giving out its own counterpart funding, " he said.

2015 Budget Passes Second Reading At The House Of Reps

The 2015 Appropriation Bill on Wednesday passed through the second reading at the House of Representatives.
The Bill was laid before the House by President Goodluck Jonathan, through the Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Dec. 17, 2014.

The N4.36 trillion budget predicated on 65 dollars per barrel of crude oil benchmark, comprised N411.84 billion for statutory transfers, N943 billion for debt servicing and N2.61 trillion for recurrent expenditure.

Don't Use Provocative Statements, President Jonathan Tells Politicians

President Goodluck Jonathan has called on politicians to desist from using provocative statements and instigating their supporters against political opponents ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Jonathan, who made the call on Wednesday in Abuja at a 2015 Elections Sensitisation Workshop, also advised politicians to desist from threatening their opponents.

APC Presidential Candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari

A group, Buhari Support Organisation, said it had raised N1.4 million to support campaign of the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari.

The Kogi State Coordinator of the group, Mr Idris Maiyanga, disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday.
He said that the funds were raised voluntarily through sale of air time cards of some mobile telephone networks.
