Mossack Fonseca Wants to Halt Online Publication of #PanamaPapers Data

 Mossack Fonseca, the law firm at the centre of the so-called Panama Papers leaks, said it will stop the online publication of raw data relating to its business in order to protect the confidentiality of its clients.
It said on Friday in Mexico City that the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) is set to publish an interactive database on details of more than 200,000 shell companies on its website on Monday.

5 Nigerians in the UK Sent to Jail Over 2.4 Million Euro Fraud

 Five Nigerians have been sentenced to jail for various housing frauds in Southwark, London, UK Evening Standard reports.

Trudy Ali-Balogun, 55, a Southwark Council Officer was said to have given tenancies worth £2.4 million to fraudsters claiming to be homeless. She also took bribes of £2,000 to wave through bogus applications which included fake birth certificates passports and wage slips and spent the money on foreign holidays, Inner London Crown Court heard.

NDLEA Arrests Female Corps Member With Indian Hemp

 The Sokoto State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday arrested a female Youth Corps member currently serving in Zamfara with nine kilogrammes of Indian hemp. The Commandant of the agency in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto.
Idris said the suspect was serving in Gumi local Government area of Zamfara and was arrested along Sokoto-Gusau Road in Sokoto. He said the suspect had confessed that she was initiated into the business by a fellow corps member.

UK mosques ban Muslim women from wearing trousers, leaving home without husband’s permission, orders them to close FB accts

 Muslim women must not leave the house without their husband’s permission, should avoid wearing trousers and should even delete their Facebook accounts, according to rulings published by mosques and Islamic associations around Britain.

The Green Lane Masjid in Birmingham said that women were not allowed to wear trousers, even in front of their husbands, while the Central Masjid of Blackburn called Facebook a ‘sin’ and an ‘evil’.
One Islamic organisation also stated that Muslim women should not leave the house without their husband’s permission and should not travel more than 48miles without their husband.

2016 budget: Saraki assures Nigerians of adequate oversight

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has commended Nigerians for their patience while awaiting presidential assent to the 2016 Appropriation Act and promised that the National Assembly will ensure its proper implementation through diligent oversight.

Saraki who joined Speaker Yakubu Dogara and other top government officials in witnessing the signing of the budget into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, said the responsibility is now that of both the executive and the legislature to ensure that the objectives and goals of the budget are duly realized.

NNPC aware of attacks on pipelines – Officials

Officials at the Abuja headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation told our correspondent that they were aware of the attack on the crude pipeline that links Kaduna and Warri refineries on Friday.

They, however, refused to release any official statement on the issue, as they noted that the issue was being investigated by security agencies.

Bishop decries neglect of Nigerian prisons

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has decried the poor state of prisons in the country, saying such facilities in a 21st Century must have a human face.

Ezeokafor wondered why most prisons were located in areas that had no room for expansion.

The bishop contended that if prisons were meant to reform inmates, both workers and inmates must live and work in a conducive environment.

Otudeko loses 10-year-old land tussle against Dangote

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday dismissed a suit filed 10 years ago by Honeywell Group and its chairman, Dr. Oba Otudeko, seeking to eject billionaire businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and his companies, from a piece of land known as Fifth Apapa Wharf Extension in Lagos.

Herdsmen killings: SERAP sues FG at ECOWAS Court

The Registered Trustees of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project have urged the Economic Community of West African States Court in Abuja to hold the Federal Government responsible for various violent incidents across the country leading to loss of property and human lives.

The plaintiffs accused the Federal Government of permitting human rights violations in form of killings, raping and maiming of citizens by violent herdsmen, military and police operatives because the Federal Government allegedly failed to address the situation.
