The Ogun State Government says it plans to generate electricity from sawdust as part of its contribution towards increasing power supply in the country.

The Commissioner for Forestry, Chief Kolawole Lawal, stated this during a visit to sawmills in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu-East Local Government Area of the state.

Lawal was quoted as saying that the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and Energy Commission of Nigeria, in collaboration with the state government, were working together to come up with a technology that would generate electricity from sawdust.

Babatola, who spoke with a Punch correspondent in Abuja, stated that he was disturbed by the thoughts of the two children that died along with their grandmother, mother and uncle, when he set their apartment on fire on April 15, 2015, at Sabongari, Bwari, in the Federal Capital Territory.

The fire consumed the whole building, including the apartment of the Babatolas, and also injured the suspect.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has expressed his disappointment at President Muhammadu Buhari for his reaction to increasing attacks and killings by herdsmen in several states in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari said on Friday that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme would be used to drive his administration’s change mantra.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the president stated this at the swearing-in of 2016 Batch ‘A’ of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Keffi, Nasarawa state, Ise-Ekiti, Ekiti and Gusau in Zamfara.

The Palace of the Oba of Benin in Edo on Friday announced that the monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolopkolo Erediauwa, had passed on.

The Iyase of Benin, Sam Igbe, who made the announcement in Benin City, said that the Oba passed on at Ugha-Ozolua, situated inside the palace.
