Man Confessed of Stealing a Smartphone
The 19-year-old snatched five in all, once picking up two in a day.
His last grab, in a sleepy San Francisco neighborhood near the city’s coastline in May 2013, was a bust — in more ways than one. He thought he was going after an iPhone 5, Apple’s newest model at the time. He ended up with the iPhone 4, which fetches half the amount on the black market. The pull landed him a disappointing $100 and a trip to juvenile hall — his first time being caught for smartphone theft.
At the detention center, the staff wasn’t surprised by his crime. “When you get to booking, that’s one of the first things they ask you: ‘A cell phone, right?’ ” says Greg (not his real name).
Smartphones are a top choice for today’s street criminals, especially teenagers. In the 12 months ending in June 2013, nearly two-thirds of robberies by minors in San Francisco involved cellphones, according to the city’s public defender.

Pregnant St. Louis woman loses left eye after police officer shoots non-lethal round at car
A pregnant St. Louis woman lost her left eye after a violent run-in with law enforcement earlier this week.
Dornnella Conners says an officer fired a non-lethal bean-bag round at the car she was in – shattering the passenger side window.
Shards of glass bloodied her face and robbed her of sight in her left eye, according to reports.
“I will have justice for what they did to me but I’m happy I’m alive,” she wrote on Facebook on Thanksgiving.
Conners was injured early Tuesday morning shortly after the announcement that Darren Wilson would not be indicted in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Crowds of demonstrators had taken to the streets to protest what they consider a travesty of justice.
Conners, who was angry about the grand jury’s decision, and her boyfriend, De’Angelas Lee, were parked at a BP gas station on New Halls Ferry Road in St. Louis, just north of Ferguson, KMOV reported.

Be Wraned--- Telling someone they're fat makes them eat More and More
Experts say that being criticised for their weight drives those who are already sensitive about it to comfort eat. Fear of ridicule may also mean they avoid exercise.Researchers from University College London said public health campaigns should also avoid making people feel bad about their weight.
Lead author Sarah Jackson advises medics to avoid using the word ‘fat’ where possible and replace it with the terms overweight or obese.
The study, published in the journal Obesity, found that those who were victims of ‘fat shaming’ put on just over 2lb on average over the course of the study. They were also six times as likely to become obese.
In contrast, those who were not criticised for their weight actually became slimmer, albeit by a small amount. Dr Jackson said

Cosby said he blocked 2005 tabloid story about sex-assault accuser
Comedian Bill Cosby struck a deal with the National Enquirer in 2005 to give the tabloid an exclusive interview about a woman's sexual-assault accusations after it promised to scrap an article about a second woman's allegations, according to news reports on a newly unsealed deposition given by Cosby.
Cosby described the deal under oath in a deposition in 2005 after he was sued by Andrea Constand, who accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her.
Cosby agreed to discuss Constand's allegations with the Enquirer if the tabloid agreed not to publish a damaging interview with Beth Ferrier, a former model who described previously unreported allegations of a similar nature, the New York Times reported.
During the past few weeks, more than a dozen women have come forward with accusations that Cosby, 77, sexually assaulted them at some point in the past few decades. NBC and Netflix have since canceled planned projects with Cosby and promoters have pulled out of some of the dates on Cosby's U.S. stand-up comedy tour.

Islamic State Group, Boko Haram Terrorize in an Age of Fantasy
Earlier this month, news that the Islamic State group – which is also known as ISIS – would begin minting money elicited the to-be-expected derision from experts.
“What central bank is going to accept an ISIS coin?” former U.N. and State Department adviser David L. Phillips scoffed to a New York Times reporter. Phillips, who heads a peace-building program at Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights, added: “It’s like blood diamonds.”
Such pragmatic tut-tuts aside, the announcement was, for all intents and purposes, a natural next step for the aspiring caliphate, which, like any self-respecting fantasy kingdom of fanatics, has already begun issuing license plates, set up courts and adroitly positioned itself as the terror set’s social media wunderkind, even publishing an online magazine, where a recent cover featured the group’s sinister black flag flapping brazenly over the hallowed symbolic space of St. Peter’s Square.
