N1.5bn contract scam: Court jails ex-NIMASA DG, Omatseye

 Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Friday convicted a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Raymond Omatseye, of N1.5bn contract scam and sentenced him to five years imprisonment.

The judge pronounced Omatseye guilty of 24 out of the 27 counts pressed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

 Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have sealed off buildings and other property allegedly belonging to Mr. Apere Embelakpo, a former aide of Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson.

Zika-related microcephaly cases reach five in Colombia

  Five infants have been born with Zika-related microcephaly in Colombia since officials began monitoring the outbreak of the mosquito-borne virus, the country's health authorities said Saturday.

The first two Zika-related cases of microcephaly -- infants born with abnormally small heads and brains -- were reported in mid-April, and three more were reported Saturday in a National Institute of Health (INS) bulletin.

China has been forced to deny claims that it is marinating dead bodies, canning them and selling them as a meat product in Africa, after a bizarre Facebook hoax went viral.
