                         Boko Haram right now in Gombe is dropping letters warning people to stay away from the March 28 elections. Earlier on today, hundreds of Boko Haram Islamists invaded and attacked the restive northeast Nigerian city of Gombe, firing heavy guns.                    Our sources said the sensitive election materials, which ought to have arrived in Nigeria earlier in the week, were unsecured at the premises of Panther Printing Services in London. SaharaReporters was able to confirm that a Nigerian firm named Cemoz International Limited had been contracted to print some ballot papers for the 2015 presidential elections.

Bank of Agriculture, Kaduna Govt Distribute 1bn Naira To Farmers

                              The Kaduna State Government in partnership with the Bank of Agriculture has distributed cheques worth 1billion naira to small scale farmers in the state.

This is aimed at boosting agriculture and food security in Nigeria.

The money was disbursed to cooperative societies and individual farmers who have fulfilled the conditions of the Bank that enabled them to access the loan.

                             The Bring Back Our Girls campaigners in Abuja have launched a formal six weeks count-down for the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls who have been in captivity since April 2014.

According to the group, the countdown will help them monitor the activities of the multinational forces toward the eradication of the insurgents and the rescue of the Chibok girls from their captors.

The group expressed confidence in government’s ability to restore security in the north east and rescue the school girls.

Fashola Credits Improved State Public Service To Change Of Attitude

Customs Impound Contraband Goods Worth 170 million Naira In Imo State

                       The Federal Operations Unit customs(FOU) Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized 37 different items suspected to be contraband goods, with a total duty paid value of one hundred and seventy nine million naira.

Addressing reporters at the command headquarters in Owerri, the Imo State capital in south-east Nigeria, the Area Controller of FOU zone C, Mr David Dimka, said that the goods varying from car tyres, trucks, bags of cement, cartoons of frozen turkey and bale of second hand clothing were all seized at different locations within the zone.

West African Allied Forces Invade Sambisa Forest

Red Cross Faces Attacks at Ebola Victims’ Funerals

                          Red Cross volunteers helping to safely bury people who die of Ebola in Guinea have been attacked in recent days by people attending the funerals, complicating efforts to stop the spread of the disease.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies reported Thursday that since March, the organization’s burial teams in Guinea have been attacked verbally or physically 10 times a month on average. Most recently, on Sunday in Forécariah, two volunteers were beaten as they tried to carry out a safe burial.

Christophe Gbenye, Radical Nationalist in Congo, Dies at 88

                            Christophe Gbenye, a radical nationalist whose brutal rebel warriors seized control of eastern Congo in 1964 and held hundreds of foreigners hostage until they were rescued by Belgian paratroopers dropping from American planes, died on Feb. 3 in Kinshasa. He was 88.

His death was reported by Radio Okapi, the United Nations-supported station in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

U.S. Orders Alabama to License Gay Unions

                        A federal judge here ruled on Thursday that the local probate judge cannot refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, potentially adding some clarity to a judicial quarrel that has roiled Alabama for most of a week.

The order by Judge Callie V. S. Granade of Federal District Court came after a brief hearing and prompted cheers and crying in the halls of the probate court here, where several couples obtained licenses and were married before the license office closed.

Niger Governor Bars Deputy From Council Meeting

                         Despite repeated promises by Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State to accord his deputy, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his rights and privileges, the governor on Wednesday barred Ibeto from attending the state executive council meeting.
The governor had in his opening remarks at the weekly council meeting at the Government House, Minna, said he will not preside over the meeting with his deputy on seat, accusing Ibeto of calling him a thief in one of the APC campaign rallies in the state.

15 Dead, Others Injured In Biu Market Blast

                       A suicide bomber on Thursday launched an attack on innocent marketers in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, north east Nigeria, leaving 15 people dead and many others injured.

Biu is the largest Borno town in the southern part of the state, located 187 kilometres south of the troubled Maiduguri, the state capital.

NLC Election Disrupted In Abuja

                     The election of a new national executive of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has ended in chaos in Abuja.

Aggrieved delegates were caught on Channels Television camera smashing and emptying ballot boxes with ballot papers flying on the floor of the International Conference Centre.

The workers alleged that the ballot papers were designed to favour one of the candidates vying for the President of the union.

El-Rufai Kicks Against Deployment of Soldiers for Elections

                    The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has kicked against the deployment of soldiers for the March 28 and April 11 elections or subsequent elections in Nigeria.

EL-rufai said that the military have no reason to be at polling centres or collation centres during elections, insisting that only the Police is constitutionally empowered to monitor elections in the country.

FG Obtains Intelligence On Boko Haram Recruitment Areas

                  As part of efforts to contain acts of insurgency in the North East and secure the entire area for the forthcoming general elections, the National Information Centre (NIC) says it has intelligence reports which indicate a considerable movement of Boko Haram recruits from locations such as Geidam, Mairi and Dupcha (all in Borno State) to training camps within the general area.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, Coordinator of the Centre, Mr Mike Omeri said previous major attacks by insurgents, including the siege on Bama and Monguno military bases, were preceded by such massing up of fighters in training camps within the proposed targets.
