Mexican Drug Lord ‘El Chapo’ Guzman Breaks Out Of Maximum Security Prison Again

In 2009, Mexican drug lord, Joaquin Guzman was the informal CEO of one of the world’s biggest drug trafficking organizations, the renowned Sinaloa Cartel. Mr Guzman was world’s most wanted man in 2011, and he owned a joint US-Mexican bounty of $7 million on his head before his recapture in 2014 by Mr Pena Nieto’s government.

The drug lord had once escaped from prison way back in 2001 by hiding in a laundry cart and wheeled out by some corrupt prison guards who were later apprehended. According to American and Mexican’s government estimates, he, is one of Mexican’s most powerful kingpin, running a business empire that estimates one quarter of the illegal narcotics shipped to the US. Also, he is on the billionaire’s list of Forbes magazine. Report says, it’s the second time in nearly 15 years, infamous drug lord escaped from a maximum security prison.

This dealt a terrible blow on President Enrique Pena Nieto and which gave a far cry on corruption in Mexico. Officials said Mr Guzman, aged 58, fled the Altiplano prison on Saturday night through a tunnel network that connected his cell to a house under construction almost a mile away. He slipped through a small opening in his cell’s shower area, climbed down a 30-foot ladder and traveled through a five-foot-tall tunnel equipped with lighting and ventilation. In the wake of Guzman’s disappearance, Mexican government has put out $3.8 million bounty to whoever finds him, whilst, it was alleged that American government offered $5 million rewards.
