Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has urged politicians in the country to shun regional politics to ensure the much needed unity and peaceful coexistence for national development.
Obasanjo stated this in Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria during a visit to his residence by the family members of one of the South-West politicians in the defunct Western Region, the late Adelabu Adegoke.
He confessed that he shared the sentiment of the late Adelabu and followed his philosophy of nationalism with attention to the development of the people at grassroots level.
Obasanjo, who was appointed as the Grand Patron of Adelabu’s centenary posthumous birthday by the family, said that people like him were still struggling to attain the feet which the late politician attained in his lifetime.
He cited an example of the United States of Western Africa, which Adelabu advocated for before his death, and the emergence of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which was formed long after his death."
