RRS Operatives Save Suspected Robbers From Being Lynched By Angry Mob In Lagos (GRAPHIC PHOTO)

Three suspected robbers yesterday came face-to-face with death when an angry mob almost lynched them for allegedly dispossessing a woman of an undisclosed sum of money in front of a bank at Fadeyi area of Lagos State.

The suspected robbers, who were part of a five-man armed gang that had earlier stationed themselves around the bank premises, reportedly attacked their victim at about 2.45pm and dispossessed her of her belongings, including the money she had just withdrawn.

However, their luck ran out when the woman’s screams attracted some young men, who gave the fleeing robbers a hot pursuit.

While two members of the gang successfully got away, the remaining three were unlucky as they were caught by the young men who gave them the beating of their lives.

But for the timely arrival of two policemen attached to the Lagos Rapid Response Squad, RRS, on their motor bike, the suspected robbers could have met their waterloo in the hands of the angry mob, who were determined to snuff life out of them.

The RRS officials, with the help of two other mobile policemen attached to the bank, were able to calm the charging mob and effect the release of the suspects to them, who were immediately taken to the Onipanu police station.

The newly-appointed Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmus, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident, saying it was being handled by the Onipanu Police Station.
