Plateau Closes 62 Poultry Farms, Destroys 190,000 Birds Over Bird Flu

According to Dr Doris Bitrus, Director, Veterinary Services, in Plateau, the Government has closed down 62 poultry farms and destroyed more than 190,000 birds affected by bird flu across the state.

She explained to NAN today in Jos that the disease had continued to spread because farmers whose farms were affected by the disease last year were not compensated and decided to sell their sick birds to marketers like that.

She however disclosed that the government is working towards promoting more bio-safety measures to check the spread of the disease.
