After 14 month unpaid salaries, Kogi threatens to sack workers

 The government of Kogi has threatened its health workers with dismissal if they dared to participate in the ongoing indefinite strike by doctors in the state.

The Punch reports that the Yahaya Bello- led government issued the threat on Friday, May 5.
The warning was conveyed by the state’s acting head of service Kehinde Lawal in a circular she
signed in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.

She said the government will also adopt the policy of ‘no work no pay’ for any doctor on strike.

Lawal said: “It is equally noteworthy for every union to realise that the best way to resolve any issue is through peaceful dialogue and not strike action.

“In view of the foregoing, any staff of Kogi State Government that decides to go on strike is hereby notified that such person will have his/her job at stake.

“The policy of ‘No Work No Pay’ will be adopted for any worker that embarks on strike action.”

Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West had accused the Kogi state government of not doing enough for its workers.

Melaye had advised President Muhammadu Buhari on what to do regarding the Paris Club Refund to states.

The senator said the president to stop the allocation of 2nd tranche of the refund to states who owe salaries.

He singled out his home state – Kogi, where he said the funds have been misused by the state governor Yahaya Bello.
