Ex-NBA Player, Brandon Roy shot while protecting children from Gunmen

A former NBA All-Star player, Brandon Roy has been injured in a shooting while ‘protecting’ children from gunfire.

He was attending a party at his grandmother’s house in Compton, California when two men shot him and three other victims without uttering a word, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Joseph Williams said.

A witness who wants to remain anonymous told USA Today that Roy was shot while shielding the other victims, all men, who were playing basketball before they were attacked.

‘The victims indicated they were standing in front of a residence watching children play basketball when they saw the suspects walking toward them,’ a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department said.

‘As the suspects approached their location, the victims heard multiple gunshots. The suspects immediately fled the area.’

All four victims were shot in the upper body and were taken to a local hospital to treat their non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.
