DSS releases ex-gov, Gabriel Suswam

Former Benue state governor, Gabriel Suswam has been released by the DSS based on self recognition.

Before his release on Sunday, May 7, Suswam has been in detention for 71 days as he was arrested on Saturday, February 25 by Nigeria’s secret police.
The ex-governor was arrested over items recovered in cars in a building in Abuja, both of which are said to belong to him.

According to the DSS, the search of the building at 44, Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Maitama, Abuja, led to the discovery of keys of 45 exotic cars, 21 Certificates of Occupancy, arms and ammunition.

Suswam is standing trial before an Abuja Federal High Court over alleged diversion of N3.1 billion raised from Benue state shares in major companies alongside his commissioner for finance, Omodachi Okolobia.

The case was adjourned to Tuesday, May 9 after the DSS failed to produce him on Tuesday, March 28 for trial.

The Inspector General of Police on WWednesday, January 25 brought an application for adjournment in a fresh N7 billion allegation of criminal misappropriation charges against Suswam.
