The Military has denied claims by International Human Rights Body, Amnesty International, that it was informed about the terror attacks on Baga, Monguno and other towns but did nothing to avert them.
In a statement by the Military, the Director of Defense Information, Maj Gen. Chris Olukolade, explained that being an area of operation where terrorists are known to be ever looking for the slightest opportunity to strike, Nigerian troops are conversant with the need to maintain the highest form of alertness.
The Defense spokesman said, in the prosecution of war against insurgency, every piece of information is factored into the intelligence that drives the Military ‘s engagement in any part of the mission area.
He said, this informs the regular patrol on terrorists’ activities and the accounts for why the attack on Maiduguri and other places failed.
It therefore dismissed Amnesty International’s allegation, describing it as inaccurate and unfair.
