A female school teacher, her daughter and a commercial motorcyclist conveying them were yesterday crushed to death by a truck in the Suleja area of Niger State.
The deceased teacher identified as Shafatu Umar Galadima, 25, on that faithful day was said to to be carrying her six-year-old daughter on her back while heading to City Academy, Suleja, where she worked.
The deceased husband, Nura Musa Bangi, said their six-year-old daughter and the commercial motorcyclist died on the spot.
Bangi further noted that, one of their daughters, Maryam was also on the motorcycle but sustained some injuries, while their fourth son, also escaped death.
According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred due to wrong overtaking on the part of the motorcyclist, who while trying to overtake clashed with another motorcycle and they all fell to the ground and in the process, an oncoming tipper ran over them.
It was learnt that the truck driver out of fear fled the scene after the accident occurred but later reported himself to the Suleja police “A” division.
The corpses of the victims were immediately removed from the scene of the accident and deposited at the Suleja General Hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
The Acting Unit Commander of the FRSC office in Suleja, Kemi Adams, while confirming the incident said the incident was as a result of wrong overtaking on the part of the motorcyclist and break failure from the truck.
Chief Superintendent, Francis Ekanem, the Divisional Police Officer Suleja “A” division, confirmed the incident, saying that the matter is been looked into.
