Indigenous rap music is on a slow demise
Many may say it is too early to tell but the effect indigenous rap content has on Nigerian rap music has reduced in the past months and may reduce even further if Reminice’s forth coming doesn’t meet a critical acclaim.
The last two indigenous albums released in the country has ended up at mediocre as best.
During this time, Olamide released the worst album of his career yet, Street OT while Phyno joined him to release 2 Kings which has been rated poorly by both set of fans (Yoruba and Igbo).
Stylist, Sarah Ofili famously demanded Phyno refund the money she spent in purchasing the album as only 1 of the 10 tracks is worth another spin.
The last indigenous rap music we see top the chart is Reminisce ’s Tesojue released more than 8 months ago.
His album has to bridge this gap by turning out smashing hit singles
Local Rappers ain’t a successful attempt
Reminisce , Olamide and Phyno drew blood when they released Tyrone produced Local Rappers where they slammed rappers that have embraced the art of rap music.
Modenine, T.R and A-Q expressed their displeasure although Reminisce and
Modenine are on good terms professionally.
The song himself didn’t prove successful till date and has such didn’t stress their claim that “Local Rapping” is now the big deal.
People are getting bored
Fans of Reminisce may not be getting bored of his music but his counterparts may need to watch what they release henceforth.
With Reminisce’s album coming soon, he needs to excite people about the whole indigenous rap music again or else it may be time to give up and leave all hope on Lil Kesh .
We haven’t had a solid rap album since No Guts No Glory
The last solid rap album to be released in Nigeria is courtesy Phyno . The Enugu born rapper ran a sprint race to Nigerian music forefront with several boom blast singles off his debut album No Guts No Glory (released March 20, 2014) but ever since, we haven’t had a solid rap project in Nigeria.
M.I Abaga may be regarded as the best rapper in the land but his Chairman album didn’t prove this, during this time, Olamide has also pushed through
with his fourth album Street OT.
Ice Prince managed to release a forgettable E.P which is now in the trash
can.
Reminisce has a point to prove
Olamide and Reminisce have been able to be friends in the game but to the fans there is the talk of who is better?
The numbers, hits and awards point at
Olamide while punchlines say Reminisce is the man.
With Olamide’s last project being the worst of his career, there’s no better time for Reminisce to hit the nail on the head.
The chances of Reminisce bettering
Olamide ’s last effort is very high… With next to no collaboration on Baba Hafusa there is a big chance for Reminisce to make his voice heard loud and clear.
If there’s one point die hard fans of Reminisce want off Baba Hafusa , it is “Do Better Than Street OT”
