WAEC Plans On Adopting JAMB’s (CBT) For Exams Across West African Countries

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is in the move to adopt Computer based Test for its examinations.

Speaking at the Board’s 20th annual endowment fund lecture in its Ikeja, Lagos, international office. The WAEC’s Board Registrar, Dr. Iyi Uwadae, revealed that the board plans to introduce the technology into its examination across the West African sub region.

He said: “WAEC is ready to adopt the technology based method in conducting its examination across West African Countries. The Board’s new international office in Lagos is already equipped with internet facilities and can sit over 350 candidates at once”.

Uwadae, who further disclosed concern over WAEC unique system of examination which is theoretical in nature, compared to the UTME’s objective questions, however, was quick to dismiss it as a non-issue.

The Registrar said: “The fact that the WAEC exams are theoretical will not stand as a major challenge in adopting the CBT, though, our Board will not in a rush to adopting this CBT method.”
