‘Deadpool’ Set to Break Box Office Record With $130 Million Opening Weekend

Deadpool is on track for a record-setting four-day opening weekend total of $130 million.
The superhero movie, which starsRyan Reynolds, brought in $47.5 million on Friday, February 12, from 3,558 locations, according to Variety. The flick earned $12.7 million from Thursday night previews alone, setting the record for an R-rated film.

Deadpool centers around the Marvel Comics’ foul-mouthed superhero, played by Reynolds, who tries to find the man who almost ruined his life. The action-comedy is the eighth installment in the X-Men film series.
Fox originally estimated the film’s debut to be between $60 and $65 million. So long as the $130 million estimate holds up, Deadpool will take the crown for the biggest President’s Day Weekend debut ever. The previous record was set last February by Fifty Shades of Grey, which earned $93 million.
