Impeached Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Edoror, on Saturday denied receiving the sum of N54m from Governor Adams Oshiomhole to be shared among 24 members of the House.
Edoror was impeached on May 3 by 16 lawmakers over allegations bordering on gross misconduct. Elizabeth Ativie, representing Uhunmwode constituency, was sworn in as his replacement.
“There was no time the governor provided me with N54m to share for House members,” he said.
Although there had been several criticisms over the alleged marginalisation of Edo Central senatorial district, following his removal, Edoror stated that contrary to what was reported by a section of the media, Oshiomhole was not behind his removal from office.
He also debunked speculations that he was removed to pave way for the impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, adding that there was no time the governor discussed such a plan with him.
According to him, if there was any external influence in his impeachment, focus should be on “some mischievous Esan leaders, whom he said had been pursuing what they called the Esan agenda.”
He stated that, in the opinion of the Esan leaders, he had to be removed as the speaker for them to achieve their objective.
The former speaker said, “It was a calculated attempt to destroy the image I have built. I consider this as an attempt to take undue advantage of an unfortunate situation in a most shameless and reprehensible manner and I condemn it in totality.”
When confronted on the allegations by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party that money being spent on the newly established Edo University, Iyamho, was not appropriated for under his watch as speaker, Edoror said, “This question is better put across to the current Speaker.”
