It may not have been the reunion Journey fans wanted, but at least it was something.
Hours before Friday's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, there were conflicting reports as to whether former lead singer Steve Perry would be on hand for the event. Much to attendees' delight, Perry walked on stage at Brooklyn's Barclays Center for his first appearance with the band since 2005, although he did not perform.
As the popular '80s rockers wrapped their speeches, Perry waved to a cheering crowd and thanked Journey's longtime fans.
"You put us here, we would not be here had it not been for you," Perry said. "Your tireless love and consistent devotion, you never have stopped. But from my heart I must tell you — I've been gone a long time, but you've always been in my heart. I want you to know that. I love every single one of you. Thank you so very much!"
Backstage, Perry met and embraced Journey's current vocalist, Arnel Pineda. Pineda led the group's performances of Separate Ways and Don't Stop Believing at the event, which also honored Pearl Jam, Joan Baez and Tupac Shakur, among others.
