JAMB registration candidates & security operatives exchange blow

Serious crisis has reportedly broken out in Makurdi, Benue State following a fight between intending Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) candidates and security operatives, leading to exchanging of blows.

Several frustrated JAMB candidates have earlier been reported to be unable to get registration forms leading to great wailings. In the process of expressing their displeasure, the prospective candidates attacked the JAMB zonal office in Markurdi destroying several properties including windows at the office.

Again, another fight has reportedly ensued between prospective JAMB candidates and security operatives today, April 5, over alleged preferential treatment by some registration officials.

According to reports, only four computers were provided to over 2,000 candidates to complete their registration. In the process of the registration, some students decided to connive with the registration officers to complete their registration first and that was when crisis erupted.

According to an eyewitness, “Students started fighting with security operatives due to the frustrating registration process, the uniform of some of the officers were torn. A soldier was beaten to coma and as he regained consciousness, he took away three students. As I speak with you, Army personnel are currently trooping into UniAgric.”

The JAMB registration crisis has however generated more havoc as there are reports that some prospective JAMB candidates in Calabar started protesting around 7am today following the poor internet service affecting their registration process for the examination.

Other candidates in Ebonyi, Abia and Imo have also complained about poor internet network and stressfu process in registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) .
