Imo Unveils First Phase Of Digitalised Electronic Library

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Wednesday inaugurated the first phase of a digitalised electronic library and resource management system at the new Imo Library Complex, Owerri.

Addressing staff of Imo State Library Board, the Okorocha said the government embarked on the project following the importance of e-learning System in education and research development. He added that the 100-seat capacity building would promote qualitative education and research development.

The governor also revealed there are plans to replicate the e-library in all the institutions of learning in the State to give students research and interactive learning opportunities free of cost. He urged Imo people to avail themselves of the library facilities and charged the staff to be duty ready to attend to users of the Library.

Earlier, Mr George Opara, the Chief Operations Officer of the Centre Point Network Ltd., which handled the project, said that the company developed the design after a thorough feasibility study. He added that the second and final phase of the library project would begin without delay.

Opara expressed gratitude to the governor for giving the company an opportunity to contribute to the education advancement of the state.

The Director, Imo State Library Board Mrs. Ngozi Amadi commended governor Okorocha for the feat achieved in relocating the library to a more conducive environment and for the world class electronic library.  She assured the governor that the library workers would remain diligent.
