Sen Musliu Obaniko, who is the immediate past Minister of State for Defence, has called on Nigerians to judge the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) by his past and not what his party presents him to be in 2015.
Vanguard reports that the former minister made the assertion on Tuesday while addressing party supporters at the campaign rally he organised under the aegis of the Goodluck/Sambo Independent Campaign Group in Lagos.
Obanikoro, who said Buhari is not electable said: “we cannot continue to judge Buhari based on what we think he will do in future. He should be judged by what he did as a former head of state.”
He said the assaults committed by Buhari and his regime cannot be swept under the carpet, saying; “his assault on Pa Awolowo, Late Bola Ige, Former Gov Lateef Jakande among others cannot be forgotten. The worst crime was his stopping of the Lagos Metro line which would have put Lagos state on a pedestal of sorts.”
Obanikoro who also used the opportunity to dig up the controversy surrounding the educational certificate of the APC candidate, said the issues must not be allowed to be patched up as the opposition party wanted to cover up the issue.
The ex-minister while calling Nigerians to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan explained that the President is serving Nigeria without discrimination and has helped Nigeria’s democracy to grow by guaranteeing freedom of speech for all.
“Jonathan has made Nigeria his constituency and has never discriminated against any tribe,” he said, adding that Nigeria was moving towards food sufficiency with the agricultural policies of the Jonathan-led administration.
The former senator, however, pleaded with Nigerians to vote for the Jonathan/Sambo ticket as well as Mr Jimi Agbaje as Lagos state governor.
“PDP remains the party to beat in this election and we are sure of victory,” Obanikoro said.
It would be recalled that Sen. Obanikoro, who was the PDP Governorship candidate in Lagos state, had earlier boasted that he is the right candidate to take over power from the opposition party, APC in the state in 2015.
Meanwhile, three members of the PDP, in Lagos State moved against him and asked a Lagos High court sitting in Ikeja to stop Obanikoro from participating in the party’s primaries.
