The grop incharge of #BringBackOurGirls campain has described the resent news report of troops’ bombardment of Sambisa Forest as mere political play directed towards the upcomming 2015 elections.
The group asked why 10 months after the abduction of the Chibok girls the troops would claim to have started the bombardment Sambisa Forest when Boko Haram insurgents had left the forest and taken over other communities.
Dr. Emmam Shehu who is one of the leaders of the group said
“We heard that the security troops bombed the Sambisa Forest. My question is, what is the reason why they had to wait up until now. When the abducted were abducted, why didn’t they go there? Terrorists are taking over territories now and they are going to Sambisa Forest – to do what there?
“Also, the persons internally displaced by the insurgency want to go back to their land. They want government to reclaim their land so that they can go back and not bombard a forest, where the insurgents have since left.”
Dr Shehu described the action of government troops as behindhand “as a political gimmick geared towards February 14 (presidential election),” insinuating that the Jonathan administration wanted to make political capital out of the matter.
“The army said they didn’t want to bomb the forest so that the girls will not be hurt. So, what is their reason for going there now?” Shehu further asked.
