NEMA Organises Sensitization Workshop Against Electoral Violence

The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) on Wednesday raised its level of preparedness for emergencies in the forthcoming elections as it intensifies efforts to promote peaceful conduct in the coming elections.

The Zonal Coordinator of NEMA in South West, Mr. Bamidele Onimode, explained during a sensitization workshop that youth and women groups as well as religious leaders are being engaged to define their roles towards credible elections and zero violence.

The guest lecturer, Professor of Counselling and Criminal Justice, University of Ibadan, Prof. Soji Aremu notes that the dangers of post-election violence is so crippling on every critical sector of the country and must be avoided at all cost.

The Director of Oyo State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Taiwo Mustapha also said the agency is constantly engaging all involved to achieve peace.

Other participants at the workshop organised by NEMA also shared perspectives on issues militating against credible elections and nonviolent elections."
