Shortly after the Super Eagles disappointing 0-0 draw against the Taifa stars of Tanzania at Dar es Salaam, Nigerian International Obafemi Martins decided to do wonders in the green colours of Seattle Sounders.
Martins and his teammate Clint Dempsey reunited for the first time since May 31 to lead Seattle Sounders to a 2-1 win over Toronto FC.

Martins scored his 11th goal of the season in the opening minutes before instigating Dempsey’s winner in the 77th minute as Seattle beat Toronto FC 2-1 on Saturday night, September 5, a crucial victory for the Sounders’ playoff hopes.

Martins scored his team opening goal in the 6th after an astute pass from Dempsey.

He will later go on to return the favour to Dempsey after Eriq Zavaleta scored in the 59th minute for Toronto FC to level the game.

Martins after a brilliant run from the wing following a nice counter attack, tries a shot from yards out which goalkeeper Konopka could only direct to the path of Dempsey who scored from close range for his 8th goal of the season.

Brian Schmetzer, Sounders assistant coach said after the game: ”At the end of the day it was just Oba and (Dempsey) doing what they do.”

With the win, Sounders FC jumps to third place in the Western Conference with 41 points.

Obafemi Martins’ goal marked his team-leading 11th of the season, as well as his fourth in four games since returning from an adductor injury.

Martins now has 36 goals in his Sounders FC career, second in club history and 11 shy of Fredy Montero’s 47.
