An alleged plan by terrorists to detonate bombs in
Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Sallah day has been
foiled by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
According to Leadership, eight suspects were reportedly arrested by the the DIA as soon as they relocated to Abuja to carry out their plan.
The Sallah celebration is scheduled for Thursday, September 24.
Though the identities of the suspects were not revealed, a source said the DIA has already taken the eight are currently interrogation, adding that useful information is being extracted from the suspects.
Abuja has witnessed series of bomb blasts in the past, one of which occurred at popular shopping mall, Emab Plaza on Aminu Kano Crescent in Wuse 2 in June 2014 which killed 21 people and injured 17.
The bomb blast occurred some months after an explosion rocked the Nyanya area of Abuja in which left many dead and several others injured.
The United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon, two weeks ago laid a wreath at the bomb site of the United Nation’s building in Abuja which was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists in 2011.
