Consequently, the university has agreed to resolve all the issues in contention with the lecturers. UNIJOS ASUU went on strike since October 23, 2015, alleging that the university authority had reneged on its agreement on the payment of outstanding allowances and some issues from the agreement the federal government had with ASUU in 2009.
In a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the minister, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai, and the Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Chris Piwuna, the university agreed to pay all the outstanding allowances to the lecturers, including paying all 653 members on the list submitted by ASUU, amounting to N38m on or before Friday (Today).
The university also agreed that no worker of the university would be victimised for participating in the strike.
