Vanguard reports that the woman, Kafayat Somoye was taking her two children,Ganiyu (male), 7 and Ganiyat (female), 5 to school when the building came down on them. 7-year old Ganiyu was reported to have escaped unhurt, while Ganiyatdied instantly. Kafayat finally gave up the ghost as she was being rushed to the hospital after her rescue.
According to Today.ng, an eyewitness, Kabirat Sonde recounting the experience said,
“I was also taking my child to school. I was behind them and a woman was at the front. The woman was the person that raised the alarm immediately the incident happened. The mother (Somoye) was rescued alive, but as she was being rushed to the hospital, she gave up. People did not know immediately that there was a girl trapped under the rubble, it was the same woman in my front that alerted everybody to that fact.”
It was also reported that angry youths would have burnt down the remaining parts of the building if not for police intervention.
