The House of Representatives yesterday honoured Ayodele Dada for his outstanding academic performance.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) graduate of Psychology was admitted into the Green Chamber for achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.0.
Majority Leader Femi Gbajabiamila moved a motion to recognise Dada for his outstanding academic performance.
The lawmaker said: “We thank our esteemed members who have agreed to accord him this rare honour.
“We only allow presidents and other important personalities into this chamber, but because this House recognises the unparalleled achievement of Mr Dada, we had to bend our rules and do what has never been done.
“He is from humble beginnings. He paid his way through school, sometimes doing two or three jobs.”
Gbajabiamila said the recognition “would inspire others. I want to recommend him for our national honour. He’s a pacesetter”.
Other lawmakers, including Nnenna Ukeje and Raphael Igbokwe, lauded Dada’s achievement and urged him not to relent in the pursuit of excellence.
They said youths should emulate him instead of looking for shortcuts to success.
The House advised him to always be of good conduct since he is now a role model.
The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, advised Dada to remain humble , adding that ‘’nobody can stop you. Only you can stop yourself in attaining greater heights”.
Speaking to other students in the gallery, he said: “Dada is not a ghost. If he attained it, it means that you can also attain it.”
Dogara, however, advised him against “things that may come easy to you: money, women and alcohol”.
He advised Dada to “continually make the country proud”.
