An Ekiti State Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 remanded a 62- year-old man, James Sunday in prison custody for allegedly shooting a couple in front of their house.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Monica Ikebuilo told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 6, 2016 at Ago Aduloju area of Ado-Ekiti.
According to Ikebuilo, Sunday attempted to kill the couple, Unwankwo Emmanuel and Chiwodu Emmanuel by shooting them with a gun in front of their house.
The offence was against the dictates of Section 320 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16,Laws of Ekiti State. 2012.
She said the duplicated case file had been forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice, Daily Post reports.
The reason behind his actions were not clearly stated as the court refused to accept his plea of innocence.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Chris Omokhafe, subsequently prayed the court for short date of adjournment.
The Presiding Magistrate, Doyin Akosile, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the advice from DPP office.
The case was further adjourned until Thursday, June 16, 2016 for further hearing.
