The Police Service Commission says it has approved the promotion of 2,058 senior police officers.
The PSC said this in a statement by its Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, on Friday.
It said a Commissioner of Police, Kaumi Ahmadu, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police while 99 Superintendents of Police were elevated to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.
The PSC also approved the promotion of 754 Deputy Superintendents of Police to the rank of Superintendent of Police.
The statement added, “1,203 Assistant Superintendents of Police were also promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police while one Inspector was elevated to the next rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police 2.
“The Chairman of the PSC, Dr. Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector-General of Police, said the promotions were based on merit, seniority and availability of vacancies. He reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensure that deserving police officers are promoted as and when due to serve as motivation to the officers.”
According to the statement, Okiro charged the promoted officers to continue to give their best in their service to the nation. He reminded them that the security of lives and property of every Nigerian and others living in Nigeria is not negotiable.
“The list of the promoted officers has been conveyed to IGP Solomon Arase for implementation,” the statement added.
