Ijaw Youth Council Finally reacts as Osinbajo orders oil companies to relocate to Niger Delta

Mr Parkins Ogede, the Secretary, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has commended the Federal Government for directing oil firms operating in the Niger Delta region to relocate their headquarters to the region.

The newly elected National Secretary of the IYC gave the commendation in an interview on Monday in Yenagoa.

Recall that Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, gave the directive at a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders in Uyo on March 2 as part of efforts to mitigate tension in oil-bearing communities.

Ogede said that the directive would boost employment of Ijaw youths, adding that no youth would want to halt the growth and development of the region, if issues responsible for agitation were addressed.

He noted that the relocation was long overdue as previous administrations had given such directive, but it was not implemented.

The IYC scribe noted that Osinbajo’s directive was laudable, but stressed that government should ensure implementation.

Ogede also urged the youths to embrace peace in order to boost development in the Niger Delta region.

Meanwhile, the absence of President Buhari from the country has continued to generate controversy. In the video below, a Nigerian speaks about the possible return of the president.
