Former supporters of an ex Niger Delta Affairs Minister,
Peter Godsday Orubebe, have come out and demanded the payment promised
to them by the ex-minister for supporting himAccording to SaharaReporters sources who have said that they were hired to support him now protest against him.
One source said: “The same people he hired to show support for him staged a mass protest against him because he did not meet his promise to pay them.”
They had gathered at Orubebe’s campaign office in Asaba after the former minister declared his ambition to become Delta state governor come 2015.
“Elder Orubebe sent his people to go all over the state and rent crowds of people, but in the end he did not pay the sum of N200 to N500 that his people promised to pay the crowd he rented from every nook and cranny of the state,” said a spokesman for a civil rights group based in Delta.
The angry protests also had women, men and teenagers. They insulted the former minister and called him a fraudster who stole funds during his tenure as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
“Why can’t he pay us common two hundred Naira that he said he will pay?” one of the protesters wondered, agreeing he was brought from Ogwashi Uku to act as a supporter of Orubebe.
