Delta State Police said that they have arrested the three alternative healing physicians following illegal abortions that were performed on two students at a high school.
According to the police investigation, the doctors attracted patients by running a medical facility for pregnant teens. They charged pregnant women between N20,000 and N30,000 ($111 and $166).
The suspects were arrested after the department received a tip from a concerned citizen. During questioning, the suspects admitted to healing women with alternative medicine.
Abortion in the country, is legally restricted, permitted only to save the life of the mother. However, at least 760,000 abortions - legal and illegal - occur every year.
3,000 to 34,000 women die each year from unsafe abortions, according to reports from the Guttmacher Institute and the government of Nigeria.
