A Lawyer Caught Smuggling Large Amount Of Drugs Into Prison

A lawyer was arrested on charges of drug smuggling after allegedly smuggling drugs into prison, prosecutors in California said.

Now, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said that the attorney pleaded to smuggling $30,000 worth of heroin inside a greeting card, which he delivered to one of his clients imprisoned in county jail.

63-year-old Stephen Beecher will be sentenced at the Superior Court by Judge Craig Veals.

The Sherman Oaks resident is expected to receive two years in prison in exchange for his plea to one felony count of bringing drugs into jail.

One of two co-defendants charged with Beecher also pleaded and was immediately sentenced.

21-year-old Jessica Paredes pleaded no contest to one felony count of conspiracy and was sentenced to two years in prison.

She was given credit for time served.

According to the police investigation, Paredes ironed and flattened packages of heroin to fit inside a greeting card envelope to be delivered to her boyfriend, 21-year-old Jesus Antonio Duenas.

Duenas is awaiting sentencing after being convicted of attempted murder in a separate case.
