Watch Out For New Moon On Thursday – NASRDA Tells Muslims

Muslim faithful have been enjoined to look out for the moon (Shawwal) in major cities in Nigeria on Thursday, which will signal the end of Ramadan and Eil-el-Fitri festivities.

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), which made the call in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Dr Felix Ale on Monday, the new moon is expected to be seen across the Nation as follows:

In Abuja, appearance of first crescent will be from 6:06pm to 6:36pm, Sunrise – 6:19am, sunset – 6:25pm.
In Maiduguri, appearance of first crescent will be from 5:4pm to 6:12pm, sunrise – 5:57am, sunset 6:02pm.

While the appearance of first crescent in Kano will be 6:01pm to 6:31pm, sunrise 6:15pm, sunset 6:21pm and appearance of first crescent in Katsina, will be 6:05pm – 6:35pm, sunrise – 6:19am, sunset – 6:24pm.
In Lagos, the appearance of first crescent will be observed from 6:24pm to 6:54pm, sunrise – 6:36am and sunset 6:42pm.

The statement, therefore, urged Muslims across the country to watch out for the moon and await formal pronouncement from the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, in line with the Islamic tradition.
