You Wouldn’t Believe What Lagos State Is Doing To All Sport Facilities It Owns

The Lagos state government has decided to throw open all sport facilities in the state in a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle among Lagosians.

According to the director general of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr. Ayodele Agbesanwa, facilities and grounds that need to be renovated and replace will be attended to.

Agbesanwa gave the directive on Wednesday, September 9 during a meeting with all nine sports facilities managers at the Commissions’ Office at Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Agbesanwa asked the managers to involve schools, sports clubs, non-governmental organisations and nearby local communities in the new development which he hoped will improve grassroots development of sports.

He said the facilities will be attended to due to repair the damages made to them by miscreants.

The open facilities are: Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere; Campos Mini stadium, Lagos Island; Onikan stadium, Onikan; Mobolaji Johnson sports complex, Rowe Park, Yaba; Agege stadium, Agege; Jalisco sports complex, Oshodi; Amuto playground, Lagos Island; Elegbata playground, Lagos Island; Isheri swimming pool, Isheri/Magodo and Ijede playground, Ijede.

The LSSC, which is a newly created body in the state was formed from the former office of Sports in the ministry with its agencies (Lagos State Sports Council and Sports Facilities Management Agency) being merged into a single structure by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode via an Executive Order.

According to PM News, the new headquarters of the LSSC is the Teslim Balogun tsadium with Mobolaji Johnson sports complex, Rowe Park, Yaba, housing some of the other offices.

The LSSC is divided into seven directories; sports development, technical, institutional sports; medical service; sports facilities; accounts and administration & human Resources which will be headed by respective headed by respective directors.

The supporting units are press & public relations, corporate Affairs & legal, ICT, internal audit and procurement.

In a related development, governor Ambode has signed and approved the release of 2500 Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to property owners across the state which took effect from, Wednesday, September 9.
