The Liverpool winger Jordan Ibe has given his reasons for rejecting Nigeria to play for England despite pleas from the Super Eagles’ coach Sunday Oliseh to switch his allegiance to the West African nation.
Ibe, who is born to a Nigerian father, has said he hopes to be selected for England in the future after representing the country at all junior age grades.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was my choice and it feels the right choice for me. I was born here and have played in the younger age groups. I want to take it up to the first team one day.”
Ibe, who played for England’s U21s at the beginning of September in successive 1-0 victories, said it was a joy for him to always represent England.
He continued: “It was great and I enjoyed myself. I felt as though Joe Gomes and I did well. It was a great experience and I’m looking forward to the coming games.
“You want to represent your country well. Even at times when you’ve not got games for Liverpool, doing well with England is vital.”
