The gun battle between a group of policemen and some armed robbers in the early hours of Tuesday, October 13, 2015 turned deadly as a woman and her 18-month-old baby were killed during the process.
The Trent had reported that over 20 heavily armed bandits attacked Diamond and Access banks at the 4th avenue area of Festac town, Lagos State.
Some police operatives stormed the scene and were challenged by the armed robbers who opened fire on them, leading to a return of fire.
Our correspondent exclusively gathered that the armed bandits who were dressed in miltary fatigue, arrived the scene in two groups.
The deceased woman and her baby were inside their house with other family members and a friend when the first bullet hit her right shoulder followed by a second one on her chest.
She was rushed to the General hospital for urgent treatment but unfortunately, she died on the way due to the severity of the injuries.
Her baby, who was in her arms as at the time she was hit by the bullets, died on the spot.
The Police Area commander arrived the scene shortly after the hoodlums had escaped in the three boats.
It was gathered that the police were unable to get through the crime scene initially because of the road blocks.
