Barely two days after the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Johnson Oluwami, issued a statement on the online portal of the scheme where he said the delay in the payment of corps members allowance was a fault of the federal government, the Nigerian Army headquarters has redeployed him from the scheme and replaced him with Brig. Gen. S. Z. Kazaure.
In a letter dated April 11, 2016, from the army headquarters, the army said Brig. Gen. Olawumi would now serve as Acting Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
His redeployment formed part of a major shake-up in the Army where Brigadier-Generals J.E. Ejeh is the commander, 81, Division Garrison; K.O. Oburo, PSO, logistics office of the Chief of Army Staff; M.O. Jimoh, commander, headquarters 31, Brigade; M. J. Abel, commandant, general workshop, Y.P. Auta, commander, 81, Brigade, H.I. Bature, DD, plans, Army Headquarters, and I. A. Quadri, PSO, combat arms, office of the COAS.
Other appointments are: Brigadier-Generals S. P. Akpan, Chief of Staff, Command Army Records and T. J. Kareem, member training team. .
Following speculations that he had been sacked from the army, in a text message to our reporter, Brig. Gen. Olawumi said it is not true that he has been sacked but his posting out of the NYSC was a routine event in the Nigerian Army, noting that his redeployment was done to enable him serve in other formations of the Nigerian Army.
