I’ll support Buhari’s re-election in 2019 – Okorocha

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Sunday said that it would only take a man with President Muhammadu Buhari’s strength of character, global acceptability and integrity to solve the various challenges confronting the nation.

Okorocha, who had withdrawn his 2019 presidential ambition in favour of the re-election of President Buhari, insisted that the President had justified the mandate given to him by the electorate through the implementation of sound economic policy.
He said,“I will not run in 2019 because President Muhammadu Buhari has all it takes to lay a solid foundation for this country as has partly manifested in his fight against corruption and for the first time, members of the international committee now look at us as a people who are serious to grow and develop.

“If you want to see what President Buhari has achieved or wants to achieve, just go and look at the 2016 budget that had just been passed by the National Assembly.”

Okorocha, who spoke while briefing newsmen on his stewardship and the challenges in the past five years, announced plans to replicate the famous Alaba Electronic International Market, Lagos through a Public Private Partnership initiative in Owerri.

According to him, the state government had launched the first fish farm project and the Imo-made fish dryer with a one million egg capacity incubator in Oguta Local Government Area as well as poultries in each of the 27 LGAs of the state.

Okorocha added that over 1,000 projects including 600 kilometre, roads had already been completed since he assumed office as the governor of the state.

The governor said that his comprehensive qualitative education programme had reduced the level of poverty in the state from 57 per cent in 2011 to 19 per cent in 2016.

The governor added that 1,300 primary schools and 225 post primary schools had been established by his administration.

Okorocha listed other accomplishments of his administration to include the construction of a Marine University in Ohaji-Egbema LGA, an ultra-modern hospital and the Imo International Cargo Airport that he said would soon be completed.
