A 26-year-old trader, Uchenna Okeke, on Tuesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating up a policeman. Okeke, a resident of Oluwalimu Street, Ikeja, Lagos, is being tried for breach of peace and assault. The Prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 11 at Ikeja, Lagos.
He said the accused unlawfully assaulted a policeman in uniform attached to MAN Centre Police station for preventing Okeke from killing his lover.

“The accused beat up the complainant and also caused injury to his head,’’ he said. The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya, adjourned the case till July 6 for mention.
