Ahead of the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State, major routes linking the area have been blocked by the state government.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Transportation, urging motorists to ply alternative routes in order to avoid traffic gridlock.

According to a statement released by the Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa, vehicular movement is expected to be adversely affected along Funsho Avenue/Western Avenue in Surulere, Yaba, Alhaji Masha and Costain axis.

The statement advised motorists coming from Lagos Island to Surulere to exit at Costain to link Surulere via Eric Moore.

Also motorists from Ikorodu Road, Mushin, Yaba and the Mainland are enjoined to use Ojuelegba to link Surulere via Itire-Lawanson Road or at Iponri via Bode Thomas.

In the same vein, motorists from Surulere to Agege Road, Mushin and Ikorodu will be directed to Bode Thomas, Eric Moore, Akerele Road and Itire Lawanson Road to link Western Avenue and Agege Road to Ojuelegba roundabout.

Meanwhile, motorists to Lagos Island and Apapa from Surulere, Alhaji Masha and Shitta area are expected to divert to Bode Thomas and Eric Moore to link Eko Bridge.
It would be recalled that the APC had announced last week that at least 8,000 delegates were expected in Lagos for its presidential primaries.
The aspirants for the APC presidential primaries are ex-Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and former military head of state Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
Other candidates are the Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwakwanso, the Publisher of Leadership Newspapers Sam Nda-Isaiah and the Governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha.
It would be recalled that the event was earlier scheduled to hold at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
Commenting on insinuations that his committee was planning to hold a coronation, the Chairman of the convention planning committee, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said the aspirants were going to face an election which will hold in the full glare of Nigerians and that no room would be left for speculations.
“All our aspirants have also been briefed on the various steps we’ve taken. Our committee is having our last meeting in Abuja today and we are relocating to the venue of the convention from this moment,” He said.
