Ebola: Nigeria Sends 250 Health Workers To Affected Countries
The health workers will depart today and they will be offering services to contain the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in the neighbouring West African countries of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Vanguard reports. They are part of a team of a 1000-strong health personnel force being deployed under the African Union Support to Ebola Outbreak in West Africa, ASEOWA.
The team consists of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other cadre of health professionals.
The Supervising Minister of Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan, will among other top government functionaries, diplomats, development partners and private sector chieftains will bid the workers good bye in a formal ceremony that will be held before they depart.
A senior health official in the Federal Ministry of Health told Channels TV yesterday that the workers will be properly insured and paid in dollars.
The insurance package promised by the federal government provides $96,016 in cover for personnel accident and disability, $190,000 in medical expenses and $100,000 benefit to be paid to beneficiary in case a volunteer dies, today.ngcom reports
