About 276 prisoners have escaped from the Medium Security Prison in Minna, the Niger State capital, in north-east Nigeria.
This is coming barely three weeks after the jailbreak in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State in the south-west.
Channels Television’s correspondent in Minna reports that gunmen invaded the prison Saturday evening, shooting sporadically.
They overpowered the guards at the facility before setting the inmates free.
It is not clear who the attackers are, nor their connection with the inmates, four of whom are said to have been re-arrested.
This is coming a day after President Goodluck Jonathan confirmed Dr. Peter Ekpendu as the new Comptroller General of Prisons, taking the place of Aminu Suley who was in acting capacity prior to the appointment of Dr Ekendu.
The attack on the Minna prison is the third that had happened within the last two months.
Attackers in the previous cases are believed to be member of a terrorist group, Boko Haram.
