Will Kelechi Receive Work Permit From British Home Office

kelechi Iheanacho

English champions Manchester City applied for the official work permit for Nigerian young football star Kelechi Iheanacho.

The 18-year-old talent impressed the club during the last year’s showing at the U-17 World Cup tournament in the UAE. Africanfootball recalls that the youngster helped Nigeria win gold.

Moreover he received the MVP (Most Valuable Player) and the 2nd leading scorer award.

In January, Kelechi signed a pre-contract with Manchester City, under the conditions of which the footballer was to move to the English club in October upon turning 18.

The young star already scored first goal for Manchester City the in the July friendly match against MLS champions Kansas City. Debut game – first goal. In the following friendly he did it again in the 5-1 triumph over Milan.

Now the Nigerian is 18 and is expected to be allowed to play professionally in the UK soon.

According to the recent reports, one of the footballer’s representatives said:

“City have applied for a work permit for Kelechi [Iheanacho] this week. We believe he will be granted the chance to play in England.”

It is believed that Manchester City will use the ‘special talent’ argument to get the Home Office to grant Iheanacho the right to ply his trade in the UK.

Thisday recalls that the same argument helped Chelsea get John Mikel Obi a contract in 2006 even when by then he was not an established Nigeria international.
